FETCH TV empiète sur le monopole de FOXTEL en Australie

As the Seven Network tries to move on Foxtel, we can exclusively reveal that two European content Companies are set to take on the Foxtel pay TV monopoly, with new IPTV services, which include movies, and all free to air TV stations in Australia.

  • Among the new companies are Fetch TV and TriplePlay.

TriplePlay, who are currently talking to Harvey Norman and JB Hi Fi, is expected to announce their new service later this month. They are also talking to several broadband ISP Companies about partnering. The company recently undertook the largest IPTV deployment in the UK, comprising over 200,000 client devices in partnership with the UK’s largest consumer electronics retailers, Curry’s.

Also set to enter the Australian market is Fetch TV who, via a set top box, plan to deliver every free to air TV station in Australia including all HD channels as well as 25 selected channels as well as movie downloads.

The Fetch TV service is a pay TV service. They are expected to launch 40 hour PVR and video-on-demand movies, TV episodes and music videos. They will also deliver full media centre functionality that enables home network streaming of video, music and family photos from a PC or USB hard drive.

The company, who has already set up offices in North Sydney, is also looking for an EPG service and is believed to have held discussions with HWW, a Ninemsn affiliated company, as well as IceTV.

In the UK, Fetch TV is operated by IP Vision who provide an HD-ready hybrid set top box platform, that operates as a direct to consumer service or a white label platform offering third parties a fully managed service solution.

IP Vision said that their platform « delivers multichannel digital TV and video on demand entertainment, including HD downloads. The service can also be branded for affiliates and delivered without the need for expensive head-end servers or dedicated networks« .

TriplePlay, who are also set to take on Foxtel, said « IPTV is a fast emerging space, now that the infrastructure is mature enough, the networks are stable enough, pricing models are reasonable and there is so much content awash in the market. It’s technology that leverages hardware (servers, switches, and display panels of all kinds). It taps into touch technologies, is used predominantly in closed communities (residential blocks, retailers, hoteliers, sporting arenas, hospitals and business blocks) and of course has rather large implications for marketing and advertising ». In an email to SmartHouse, TriplePlay said « For retailers that compete in the cluttered CE space, IPTV is being looked at as a way to leverage existing infrastructure and develop multi-touch approaches to customer engagement ». The company is also targeting property developers to install TriplePlay inside new premises. They said « For property developers, it’s a way to deliver content to the public that does not rely on PC’s and is adapted to the way consumers are accessing content online ».
